Third, Ireland permits dual citizenship without restriction and Pakistan permits dual citizenship with Ireland, so the family-side trade-off is zero. Stack those three and you get from Pakistan to an EU passport in 5 to 6 years of legal residence with no renunciation.

Time on Stamp 1 (CSEP or GEP), Stamp 4 (long-term work permission), and Stamp 5 (without condition) all count toward the 5-year reckonable total. Time on Stamp 2 (student), Stamp 3 (dependant with no work), and any asylum-seeker stamp does not count. Most Pakistani applicants who start on Stamp 2 for a master's degree and then move to Stamp 1 via CSEP only start the reckonable clock at the CSEP issue date. I track reckonable days from day one for every settlement-track client and produce a residence log when the citizenship application opens.

Stamp 1 is the standard work-permit-tied stamp issued on CSEP or GEP. Stamp 1G is the graduate scheme stamp, granted automatically to fresh graduates of Irish higher-education institutions at NFQ Level 8 (bachelor's) for 12 months, or Level 9-10 (master's, PhD) for 24 months. Stamp 1G allows unrestricted employment for the period without a sponsor or permit. Pakistani students at Trinity College, UCD, DCU, NUI Galway routinely use Stamp 1G as the bridge from Stamp 2 (student) to Stamp 1 (employed). The Stamp 1G year is also reckonable for citizenship, which makes Irish master's programmes one of the best long-term plays in Europe.
